Duplicate a cost-centre set

Why duplicate instead of edit

A cost-centre set holds the running costs a group of houses share, such as electricity, food and repairs. See cost centres and sets for how a set, its lines and your houses fit together.

Costs move every financial year, but changing a line’s $ Amount on a live set updates every house still linked to it straight away. Duplicating gives you a separate copy to work on instead. The old set keeps showing exactly what it showed last year, so it stays an accurate record of what any scenario saved against it was actually calculated with. Build and check the new year’s figures on the copy, then move houses across once you are ready.

Start a duplicate

Select Duplicate next to any set in the Active list on the cost-centre sets page, or open a set and select Duplicate in its header. Archived sets do not offer this option - select Restore first if you need to copy one.

SILWise asks for a name for the new set, already filled in with the original name plus “(copy)” so you only need to change what matters. Type a name, for example turning “Coastal Homes Standard Set” into “Coastal Homes Standard Set 2027”, and confirm.

What gets copied

Every active line on the source set copies across exactly as it stands - each Label, Category, Unit, $ Amount and On setting. Lines you had already removed do not come back. The new set appears under Active on the cost-centre sets page as its own record: changing an amount on one set never changes the other.

Houses stay put unless you move them

Duplicating does not move any house. Every house linked to the original set stays there, still using its figures, and the new set starts with no houses linked at all.

If houses are linked to the source set, SILWise lists them straight after duplicating and lets you tick which ones should switch over now. Select Switch to move the ticked houses immediately, or Skip to leave everything as it is and move houses later.

Moving a house carries over its own line-by-line choices, such as which cost lines it pays and any participant’s personal amount, wherever a matching line exists in the new set. Where a line was removed before the switch, that choice is dropped, and SILWise tells you which ones so you can set them again.

Update the copied amounts

A fresh duplicate holds the exact figures you started with, so nothing is right for the new year yet. Open the new set and work down it, category by category, updating the $ Amount on every line that changed. Leave anything unchanged as it is, and add or remove lines the same way you would on any set - see set up cost centres for the full steps.

What you should see

The new set sits under Active on the cost-centre sets page, with its own name and its own linked-house count. Any houses you switched now show against it; the rest still point at the original set with its old figures untouched.

Once the new set’s figures are right, move the remaining houses across from edit a house.
