Edit a house

Open the edit form

Open the house from your houses list. From the house’s own page you can switch its cost-centre set; select Edit house to update its details and choose which cost lines apply to it. If you haven’t created the house yet, see add a house first.

Update the house details

The top section lets you change:

• Name
• Address (optional)
• Total bedrooms
• Bedrooms for participants
• Rent per fortnight
• Charges effective from (optional)
• SDA-registered

Total bedrooms and bedrooms for participants are not the same figure. The second is the first minus any staff or office rooms, and it’s the number rent actually gets divided across. See houses and bedrooms for how that split works.

None of these changes save as you type. Select Save fields once you’re happy with the values.

Switch the cost-centre set

Every house is linked to one cost-centre set, which decides what cost lines are available to it. See cost-centres and sets for what a set is. The set appears in its own card on the house’s own page - the page you land on before selecting Edit house, not the edit form itself - labelled Cost-centre set, with a Change set button.

Selecting Change set opens a box where you choose a different set and select Switch to confirm. This applies straight away - there’s no extra Save step. Cost lines are carried over to the new set by matching name; any line with no equivalent in the new set is dropped, and SILWise shows you a short summary of what carried over and what didn’t. Any participant-specific amount tied to a dropped line is dropped along with it.

Switching the set does not change any scenario you have already saved for this house. A saved scenario locks in the figures it used at the time, so past calculations and their PDFs stay exactly as they were. The switch does discard any calculation you have open but haven’t saved yet for this house, and every calculation you run after the switch uses the new set’s cost lines and prices.

Choose which cost lines apply

Below the house details, Cost inclusions lists every cost line in the house’s current set, grouped under headings such as Utilities, Repairs & maintenance, Household supplies, Food and Other items. Tick or untick a line to decide whether this house pays it. Defaults come from the cost-centre set, but each house can turn individual lines on or off.

This list only changes what’s ticked on screen until you select Save inclusions. It’s a separate save from the house details above, so saving one does not save the other.

This form doesn’t cover the people living in the house. Add or update them from manage participants.

What you’ll see when it’s done

After selecting Save fields, the page confirms the update and the new values appear on the house’s detail page. After selecting Save inclusions, the ticked cost lines become what the next calculation for this house uses. After switching sets, the cost-centre set card shows the new set’s name immediately.
